10 Ways to Not Be a Jerk at the Gym in January
Updated: Mar 4, 2022
1. Loudly complaining about how busy it is with these "resolutioners" will actually do nothing to make it less busy. Instead, enjoy the energy of other people bettering themselves, and get creative with your workout. You can skip curls today. 💪
⠀
2. It's not "your gym". You didn't buy it, you don't pay the bills. But the January rush DOES pay a significant amount of bills which allows "your gym" to continue maintaining "your gym" the other 11 months of the year. 💵
⠀
3. Smiling at new people will not decrease your gains. It may however encourage them to continue pushing towards their goals. ☺
⠀
4. Maybe his cargo shorts are the only ones he owns, and paying for the gym membership is already putting a strain on his finances this month. 👖
⠀
5. Maybe her full face of makeup is because she just came from work. Or maybe she just feels more confident that way and it helped her get out of the car and walk inside. 💄
⠀
6. Just because they showed up after you and left before you doesn't mean you're a superior being. They just worked harder than they have in a LONG time. Did you? 🤔
⠀⠀
7. You've completed three sets in the time that they've spent looking at their phone? Maybe they're resting, or maybe they're looking up how to properly perform the next exercise so they don't look stupid in front of you and your bros. 📱
⠀⠀
8. It's NEVER okay to record or take a picture of anyone for the sake of your group chat's entertainment. Not his improper squat form. Not her 2lb rapid shoulder press. 🚫
⠀⠀
9. You CAN give advice on how to properly perform an exercise, especially when potential injury is at stake, without sounding arrogant. A simple "I used to do such-and-such that way before too, but I've found doing them this way has really helped my progress" sounds non-douchey. They'll probably be really grateful and think you're a fitness guru. 🔮
⠀⠀
10. Most will be gone by February 1st, but if 1 out of 20 stuck with it because you made an uncomfortable process more comfortable, that's one person who didn't give up on battling obesity, health issues, depression, or low self-esteem, because you were a good person. ❤️
